      Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom Teeth Removal and Surgical Extractions

Our dedicated team at Parramatta Dental Studio and Cabramatta Dental Studio are experienced at removal of wisdom teeth and other badly broken-down teeth. The skilled dentists will examine your mouth, take the appropriate x-ray (usually a full mouth OPG x-ray) and then discuss with you the process of tooth removal. For complex cases where there are deep impactions, roots close to the nerves or you require all of the wisdom teeth to be removed at the same time, a referral to a specialist will be offered.
      WHY?
Wisdom teeth can be problematic as they are starting to erupt through the gum causing pericoronitis (gum inflammation and swelling) in our late teens and early 20s. Wisdom teeth can also be problematic if left in place and can cause gum disease and decay in adjacent or neighbouring teeth in the future.
      PLAN FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT?
Eat a light meal before your scheduled appointment and ensure you have some time to rest after your appointment. If you have a deep surgical wound, we recommend 48 hours of rest and then allow 7 to 10 days for the gums in the area to heal and close. We usually recommend a soft diet, avoiding crunchy and hard foods during your healing time and keeping your mouth clean by gentle brushing and salt water rinsing. You may have to return to have sutures removed approximately 2 weeks after your extraction appointment. You may be given antibiotics to take after the procedure.
      OTHER TEETH?
Badly broken-down teeth, deep decay or teeth with unusual root anatomy may also require a planned surgical extraction. The dentist will take a dental x-ray, assess your tooth and plan for the extraction. You will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the surrounding areas and then the dentist will proceed to remove the tooth. Sometimes an incision has to be made into your gum and your tooth will need to be divided in order to safely remove the tooth, your wound will then be closed over with sutures.
