      Preventative Dentistry

At Cabramatta and Parramatta Dental Studio, the dentists are passionate about prevention of dental problems such as cavities, gum disease and wear and tear. At your regular check-ups, not only will the dentists check and clean your teeth they will show you tailored oral hygiene techniques such as flossing and using interdental brushes so that you can keep your teeth and gums healthy between appointments. We will give you advice on whether you need protective coatings (called fissure sealants), mouthguards for sports, occlusal splints or night guards for teeth clenching and grinding and discuss diet and other factors that can cause damage to your teeth.
CLEANING AND PERIODONTAL DEBRIDEMENT (DEEP SCALING):
To prevent gum disease from progressing we recommend seeing one of our friendly dentists to remove tartar (hard calculus deposits) from your teeth that can build up between dental visits. If you have active gum (periodontal) disease your dentist will advise you whether you would benefit from deep scaling over several appointments.
      FLOSSING AND INTERDENTAL CLEANING:
we all know brushing your teeth twice daily is important, however cleaning the surfaces in between our teeth is equally important to prevent shrinking gums and decay starting. To clean in between your teeth, you can use dental floss, tape and ribbon, interdental cleaning brushes and water flossers.
      FISSURE SEALANTS:
Some of our teeth have deep grooves, pits and fissures which are plaque retentive and are more susceptible to dental decay. Fissure sealants act like protective coatings and is “flowed” into the grooves, pits and fissures and makes your tooth smooth and easier to clean.
      MOUTHGUARDS FOR SPORTS:
If you play a contact sport, it is crucial to consider protecting your healthy teeth and gums with a custom-made sports mouthguard. They are comfortable and stable compared to other over the counter alternatives. You need an appointment for a mould or digital scan and then another appointment for fitting of the mouthguard.
      OCCLUSAL SPLINT / NIGHT GUARDS:
If you have noticed morning head and neck aches, worn and sensitive teeth, limited or restricted mouth opening, your dentist may have the conversation with you about teeth clenching or grinding. There are many management options that can help and one of them is a custom-made occlusal splint. This appliance is a clear acrylic appliance worn at night to protect your remaining tooth enamel from the excessive chewing/biting forces during your sleep parafunction habits.
